Gender Issues Within The Workplace Essay - 1918 Words

In recent discussion of workplace, there have been many controversies all over the world that include gender issues in the workplace. Gender plays a powerful role in shaping workplace experiences. The workplace in society is known as a place where people work in a specific location such as a home office, office building, schools, hospitals, and factories in which we earn income from to support our needs and wants. However, workplace gender equality is mostly achieved when people are able to enjoy the same rewards, resources, and opportunities regardless of gender. Today that s not the case, as individuals in society we have our own social role that is mostly understood as our expectations. These roles are a part of who we are in the workplace. Majority of the time these roles do affect the way we are treated because we usually don’t follow the set of norms, values, behaviors, and personality characteristics that are attached to our status in the workplace, and because of this occupational segregation, wage gap, sexual harassment, rape, maternity leave for women and men continue to be a problem today. In society, men and women are not being treated equally in the workplace. Most of the time men and women don’t have the same opportunities and resources to move up in life. However, this gender bias and discrimination has played its role in the wage gap for so long that it is widely recognized. Today women still earn less than men.
